Very detailed description
The best for effective and successful weight gain
For certain high-intensity strength and/or endurance athletes (rugby, soccer, field hockey, handball, etc.), weight gain may be necessary in a progression phase. In this situation, we consider it necessary to aim for 45 to 55 kcal/kg of body weight/day, in addition to a sufficient protein intake (it is pointless to exceed 2 g protein/kg/d).
When properly designed, a gainer is an excellent way to achieve your calorie and protein targets.
Protéalpes Mass Gainers are unique in that they are the only ones to contain organic cassava maltodextrin as their main source of carbohydrates. Organic cassava maltodextrin (DE10) stands out from other maltodextrins for its ability to provide carbohydrates with a lower GI than more conventional maltodextrins.
- Weight gain
- Recovery and strengthening of muscle fibres stimulated during training
- Adapted carbohydrate and protein absorption
Terms of use
- Pour 400 to 500 ml of liquid into a shaker, then add 2 scoops of Mass Gainer (1 serving = 2 scoops of 50 g each)
- Mix with a shaker. Shake from bottom to top 3 to 4 times maximum.
- Finish with light circular movements of the shaker*.
*When building mass, avoid taking Mass Gainer before a meal. The appetite-suppressant effect could reduce the quantity consumed during the classic meal. Instead, take it before a meal, or as a dessert.

Frequently asked questions
What are the differences between your protein products?
All of our recovery products provide roughly the same amount of protein: about 23 g per serving, which is in line with standard sports nutrition guidelines (20 to 40 g per serving, or about 0.25 g per kilogram of body weight). In this regard, there is no significant difference between the products; what sets them apart is their carbohydrate content and formulation.
The whey protein in the Classic line combines these proteins with a minimal amount of carbohydrates to round out the formula. It is suitable after low- to moderate-intensity workouts or strength training sessions, when you’re not specifically looking to gain muscle mass.
Pro Recovery adds a higher amount of carbohydrates—about 50 g—with a high glycemic index to this protein intake. It’s designed for use after very intense workouts, when glycogen stores have been heavily depleted: it’s therefore more of a product for occasional use in endurance sports or team sports (after a game, a race, or a particularly tough session…).
The Mass Gainer takes carbohydrates up another notch while maintaining the same protein content: nearly 70 g of carbohydrates per serving. These come primarily from organic cassava maltodextrin (dextrose equivalent of 10), which is released more gradually than maltodextrins with a higher DE. It is primarily used to increase caloric intake, which is of particular interest to so-called ectomorphs looking to gain mass.
Can you combine a mass gainer and whey on the same day?
As a general rule, a single daily dose of a protein supplement is sufficient: the idea is not to exceed your actual protein needs and to let your diet play its primary role, without replacing it with supplements.
Depending on your training routine, two servings are still possible, provided you do not exceed the protein intake appropriate for your goal—a maximum of 2 g per kilogram of body weight per day, from all sources combined. For example, you can have the weight gainer as a morning snack, then whey or Pro Recovery after your workout. Be sure to space these two doses well apart, and preferably save the whey or Pro Recovery for immediately after your workout.
Is the drink sickening?
Since the weight gainer is richer than whey, its texture is slightly thicker. However, we don’t add any thickeners or texturizing agents: when mixed with water, the blend remains smooth and light.
As with all our products, we wanted a formula that’s as light as possible—one that mixes easily with water and is easy to drink every day. If you prefer a richer drink, pour milk or a plant-based beverage into the shaker before adding the scoop of gainer, just as you would with whey. As for flavors, we’ve stayed true to our whey line: light flavors, with no additives or sweeteners.
When should you take Mass Gainer?
When it comes to gaining muscle mass—as with strength training in general—what matters most is the total number of calories and protein consumed throughout the day, far more than the exact time of consumption. It’s often recommended to take protein after a workout, but in this context, the effect of timing on muscle growth is very limited. If breakfast, a morning snack, or an afternoon snack works better for you, there’s no reason not to choose that option.
There’s just one important rule: avoid taking it right before a meal. Rich in carbohydrates, protein, and calories—and quite substantial in volume—it would have too strong of an appetite-suppressing effect, risking that you’ll eat less at your next meal. However, your diet should remain the foundation of your nutrient intake. So, it’s better to have the weight gainer as a dessert or snack.
