What's the difference with other wheys on the market?

We work directly with a union of dairy producers, the Union des Producteurs de Beaufort, without any intermediaries, wholesalers, or industrial milk giants. This direct relationship with local primary producers guarantees complete traceability, from the farm to the finished product.

Our nutrition products are manufactured in Albertville, in the heart of the Alps, with all stages of production carried out in-house, without any subcontracting. This total control allows us to closely monitor quality and be certified NF EN 17444 (formerly NF V94-001), the European standard for anti-doping sports supplements.

This certification attests tothe absence of doping substances in our products, whereas nearly 15% of dietary supplements sold in Europe are believed to contain banned compounds, particularly anabolic steroids (1).

Respect for the environment, animals and people

  • Low-density farming, with cows grazing in the Rhône-Alpes region, at altitudes of up to 2,500 meters.
  • Small-scale farms located exclusively in the French Alps, in the heart of the Rhône-Alpes region (Union des Producteurs de Beaufort).
  • Traditional local breeds with more moderate yields (Tarine, Abondance), naturally adapted to the constraints of the mountain environment.
  • Feed based on grass and hay from the geographical area, without the use of GMOs.
  • An agricultural model designed with consistency, sustainability, and gradual adaptation to the environment and natural cycles in mind.

Terms of use

  • Pour 150 to 200 ml of liquid (water, plant milk, milk or mixture) into a shaker, then add 1 portion of whey (1 measuring spoon provided = 1 portion).
  • Mix in a shaker, shaking up and down.
  • Finish with light circular movements of the shaker*.

*As we don't use lecithin (a foam-reducing surfactant), a light layer of foam may appear after mixing too vigorously. This is perfectly normal and will disappear within a few minutes.

What is whey isolate?
Whey isolate is a protein-rich powder obtained from cow's milk through aprocessof microfiltration and ultrafiltration that concentrates the protein and significantly reduces the lactose, fat, and sugar content.

It comes from the whey produced when milk coagulates during cheese production, and is then cold-purified to preserve the quality of the whey proteins and their impact on muscle protein synthesis and muscle anabolism.

Athletes do not consume pure whey isolate. "Pure" isolate (without flavoring, sugar, or sweeteners) has a very dry, bitter taste, similar to "curdled milk/whey," with a floury texture that is unpleasant to drink as is.

To make it drinkable, most brands add artificial flavors, sweeteners (often sucralose), and various additives for solubility, color, and texture.

At Protéalpes, all our protein products are formulated from the same isolate. We add raw, unprocessed ingredients, which take up space in the mixture (unlike additives), meaning that our products are naturally lower in protein percentage than more traditional products, even though our raw material contains well over 85% protein.
What is the difference between whey and whey isolate?

Classic whey (whey concentrate, not isolate) is a powder derived from milk with a protein content generally around 70–80% and a higher lactose, fat, and carbohydrate content.

For whey concentrate: whey (or milk) is filtered to remove some of the water, lactose, and fat, then dried to obtain a powder. The process is simpler and less expensive.

For whey isolate: this base is used and additional filtration steps (ultrafiltration, microfiltration, diafiltration) are applied to remove as much lactose and fat as possible, further concentrating the protein to around 85-90%+.

This results in a "purer" protein, but with a more complex and expensive process.

Isolate is preferred for better digestion and for people who are sensitive to lactose.

Which whey protein is suitable for lactose intolerance?
For lactose intolerance, it is advisable to choose a product that contains only cold-filtered whey isolate, as the filtration process reduces the lactose content compared to whey concentrate.

A product of this type, composed of whey isolate and formulated without any additives, offers a protein-rich powder with a low lactose content, which is better for digestion and assimilation in athletes seeking to increase their protein intake without digestive discomfort. Additives also impact digestibility.

In cases of severe intolerance, it is still recommended to test small amounts with water or milk and also to consider lactose-free alternatives (plant-based such as oat milk).
What is the best whey protein for building muscle?
For muscle mass gain and muscle building, the best whey is one that provides a large amount of complete, easily absorbed protein, with an adequate amount of sugars and fats, without additives or sweeteners, and that can be easily incorporated into meals or snacks (shaken with water or milk, protein pancakes, etc.).

A high-quality whey isolate, sourced from traceable milk, naturally rich in essential amino acids and BCAAs, promotes muscle protein synthesis, muscle anabolism, and recovery, and can help with both muscle gain and fat loss depending on the rest of the diet.
