Frequently asked questions

Is the half-time range suitable for non-team sports?

Obviously, it's more important to focus on the type of effort than on whether or not it's purely "collective".

The half-time range will be just as effective for individual racquet sports such as tennis or badminton, but also for padel, sprints... In short, for sports involving repetition of major efforts interspersed with breaks.

What are the benefits of electrolytes and vitamin C during exercise?

The specific blend of carbohydrates, electrolytes and vitamin C in "Mi-temps Énergie" has been carefully designed to optimize both nutritional and cognitive aspects, essential for improving performance during the second half of matches and reducing the feeling of fatigue.

Carbohydrates: the choice of carbohydrates in this mix plays a crucial role. The different carbohydrate sources ensure rapid energy release, which is ideal for efforts of this type, to maintain a high level of intensity throughout the second half. This avoids performance dips due to depletion of energy reserves.

Electrolytes: electrolytes, such as sodium, potassium and magnesium, are essential for maintaining the body's water and electrolyte balance. During exercise, perspiration causes electrolyte loss, which can lead to dehydration and reduced performance. By maintaining these electrolytes, the drink helps preserve muscle and nerve function, essential for athletic performance. Sodium is particularly important in this context, as it also increases the capacity of the stomach to absorb carbohydrates (glucose/sodium co-transporter).

Vitamin C: known for its antioxidant properties, vitamin C plays a role in protecting against oxidative stress induced by intense exercise. It also helps support the immune system and can help reduce feelings of fatigue, in part by promoting the synthesis of certain neurotransmitters involved in alertness and concentration.

Why consume Pro Recovery after exercise?

The 2:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein in Pro Recovery is carefully designed to promote optimal recovery after intense effort.

After intense exercise, muscle and liver glycogen reserves are often severely depleted. Pro Recovery carbohydrates help to rapidly replenish these reserves. A high carbohydrate intake stimulates the release of insulin, a hormone that promotes glycogen storage. The 2:1 ratio ensures the right amount of carbohydrates to maximize this replenishment process.

The combination of carbohydrates and proteins works synergistically to enhance muscle and energy recovery. Carbohydrates replenish energy reserves, but also enhance protein metabolism and utilization in the muscle fiber. This synergy ensures that the body receives and efficiently uses the nutrients it needs to recover quickly after exercise.

What's the difference between Pro-Recovery and whey protein?

All Protéalpes recovery products are standardized to around 20/25 g of protein per serving. As a result, the protein content of Pro Recovery and Altitude Whey Protein is relatively similar.

The main distinction lies in the carbohydrate content. Our whey protein, with its low carbohydrate content, is ideal for recovery after low- to medium-intensity efforts or for strength events. It promotes efficient protein assimilation at muscle level and slight glycogen depletion.

Pro Recovery, on the other hand, includes a larger quantity of carbohydrates (around 50 g) in addition to proteins, which are very quick to assimilate.

This product is therefore ideal for recovery after very intense efforts, during which significant glycogen depletion has taken place. Its use is recommended on an occasional basis, such as after a match, race or particularly intense training session.

When should you drink your half-time drink?

Ideally, the half-time drink is consumed during a break, 5 to 8 minutes before resuming exercise.

What are the advantages of tri-sourced carbohydrates in an energy drink?

Tri-sources of carbohydrates in an energy drink, such as the "Mi-temps Énergie" product, offer several key benefits for athletes, particularly during intense sporting activities such as matches, especially in the second half. Here are the main benefits:

Maximized energy release :

The use of different carbohydrate sources (glucose/fructose/complex carbohydrates) maximizes energy release in a relatively short time. In fact, these different carbohydrates do not pass through the same intestinal transporters, so their absorption is improved.

Optimizing metabolism :

Different types of carbohydrate are absorbed and metabolized by different mechanisms in the body. By combining several sources, the drink maximizes the efficiency of carbohydrate absorption and utilization in the energy chain.

Cognitive support :

Carbohydrates are also an essential source of fuel for the brain. A carbohydrate-adapted diet is crucial for maintaining concentration, rapid decision-making and cognitive alertness, all important aspects of performance in team sports.

Prevention of hypoglycemia :

More generally, by providing a source of glucose adapted to needs, these drinks help prevent hypoglycemia, a condition in which blood sugar levels are abnormally low, which can lead to dizziness, weakness and a noticeable reduction in physical and cognitive performance.

When is the best time to use Pro-Recovery?

Pro Recovery, designed for the intense post-exercise period, is ideally consumed at a strategic moment, between 30 min and 2 h after exercise.

With a dose of 80 g in 400 ml of water, its proximity to meals should be taken into account. If a full meal is planned immediately after exercise, it's best to avoid consuming Pro Recovery immediately beforehand, so as not to reduce the appetite and nutritional intake of the meal.

However, if the meal is scheduled an hour or an hour and a half after taking Pro Recovery, the appetite-suppressant effect will be minimized.

Pro Recovery can also be eaten as a dessert if the meal directly follows the physical effort. In the case of a medium-quality meal (fast food, pizza, etc.), it is preferable to take Pro Recovery before the meal, even if this reduces the intake of the meal.
